While traveling through Freeport last weekend I finally pulled into this small roadside park nestled alongside Four Mile Creek that I’d been meaning to visit for some time. Although small, this park does have its merits. A raised boardwalk follows the course of the winding creek for a short distance, and built into small overlook areas are wooden seats allowing visitors to sit a spell and watch the creek and wildlife.
Easy to miss for the way it blends into the scenery are small picnic tables and grills, as well as a couple of small pavilions, perfect for an afternoon lunch (don’t forget the bug spray.) The entire park is shaded and quiet despite its proximity to the roadway. Although not overwhelming, this park is a nice distraction if you’re just needing a moment in nature. H. A. Laird Park is located just west of Freeport on Hwy 20.
