Cyclists take a leisurely ride at Ferry Park.

When searching for adventure it’s often easy to overlook the familiar, especially if it’s nestled in a sleepy neighborhood several blocks off of the main road. Ferry Park, located at the corner of Hughes Street and Ferry Road, is one of the larger parks in the Fort Walton Beach area and hosts an assortment of activities.

This partially wooded park has a one mile walking trail complete with workout stations, 18 hole disc golf course, two ball fields, three tennis courts, skate court and a playground for the kids. A stream with several bridge crossings runs the length of the park giving nature lovers a chance to enjoy watching turtles and fish vying for attention. The wooded area also provides a safe home for numerous birds, squirrels and the occasional raccoon.

Cyclists, joggers and dog walkers are a common sight at the park. For those just looking to take in some fresh air there are several benches scattered throughout the park that provide the perfect place for people-watching. The only thing this park doesn’t have is a place to swim, but fret not, Okaloosa Island is just a couple of miles away.
